Founded in 2010 and awarded the Marion Ermer Foundation's Jazz Young Talent Prize in 2012, the Johannes Bigge Trio has definitely earned a firm place among German piano trios over the years, with successful album releases and countless concerts. The trio also represents the young Leipzig scene, which has repeatedly produced top-class projects and bands in recent years.
The three musicians have undoubtedly developed their own band sound, in which Bigge's colorful, soft to crystalline piano sound, Baumgärtner's orchestrating, tonally colorful and energetic drumming and Lucacius' mobile, grounding bass playing, which shapes the musical flow, become an overall sound. The trio sometimes plays with force and a love of experimentation, then again with gentleness and courage for simple beauty, with a wealth of melodies and harmonic colors and, in the end, simply with the joy of making music together.
After PEGASUS (2016) and IMAGO (2018), the third album CLAY will be released by nWog-Records in 2024. The 11 compositions on CLAY were created during the pandemic and developed and shaped by the three musicians from rehearsal to rehearsal, like a lump of clay that gradually becomes a sculpture. Reflecting the process of creation, the music is about the transition from idea to realization, the process in which an inner image slowly forms into something concrete and finally becomes reality.
