Swiss guitarist Ursus Bachthaler says, "Brother Monk is where we'll meet again". And he takes a lot out of his Monk interpretations with his band. With a shimmering Wurlitzer sound and a crunching Stratocaster, bouncing snare beats and the warm foundation of melodic Moog bass, the quartet tackles Monk's quirky melodies and harmonies. "Epistrophy", for example, the way they leave it naked in the wind in between is great class. There are echoes of dusty desert rock, bluesy guitar sequences and noisy surges in the mix."
