Jazzkalender #305

LET'S TALK ABOUT JAZZ... and goodbye summer break!

It's August and anyone who hasn't just clipped Jazzkalender #305 as a bookmark between the pages of their vacation reading, pale in the sea air, and let the sand trickle through their fingers somewhere else, is, like us, in Leipzig! In summer, it is known to be more pleasant here than anywhere else: During the day, the hopping rabbits on the fallow land opposite our office provide the necessary provincial idyll amidst the urban noise and in the evening there is the coolness of the lakes, still crisp green meadows and, especially in summer 2021, a lot of (open-air) concerts!

For us, as well as for many other cultural organizers in the city, it is currently "Goodbye summer break! The past year and the restrictions on (cultural) life associated with the Corona pandemic, which still exist and will certainly remain part of our everyday life in the coming months, continue to challenge us and make ingenuity, knowledge sharing, collaboration and spontaneity indispensable.

Little by little we are finding new dates for concerts we had to cancel in 2020. This month, for example, the Philipp Rumsch Ensemble, Reza Askari's ROAR and the Arne Jansen Trio. At the same time, we are discovering new venues such as the Arena am Panometer and the inner courtyard of the Grassi Museum in cooperation with UT Connewitz, Werk 2 and the sociocultural center die naTo.

It's been a long time since we've had anything to say here, and yet there has been a lot going on here in the past few months: our concert series during the year has once again been awarded the APPLAUS venue program prize, and the award of the 44th Leipzig Jazz Days "Transitions" with the 1st German Jazz Prize as "Festival of the Year" has sent us into a complete frenzy. Detailed reports on this can be found on our website.

Speaking of Leipziger Jazztage: We are in the middle of the hot phase of preparations for this year's festival edition "Body Time". The presale starts on August 25th and soon you can have a first look at the program.

The stable breeze of the fan in the neck greets you summer fresh
