Dance of the amoebae - examined through a jazz microscope.

What intelligent multicellular organism could boast of ever having seen an amoeba with its own eyes? Amoebas are single-celled shape-shifters that are, in the words of Irish author Flann O'Brien, slightly smaller than invisible. We know they exist. But if you can't see them, you can at least listen to them dance. Berlin saxophonist, composer and bandleader Silke Eberhard makes it possible with her long-term formation Potsa Lotsa XL. 

In her project "Amoeba's Dance", the sighted ear inevitably enters a teeming microcosm populated by a multitude of incredibly likeable and endearing creatures that have a completely different world view to our own. As soon as you get involved in this world, you begin to shrink and listen to Silke Eberhard's music with different ears. The overall sound of her Wimmelzoo is very small-scale and organic. 

Much was formulated on paper, and yet the actual transformation of form only begins in the interplay with the musicians in the band. The short pieces change their form as they collectively progress, just like their nanozoological models. The microscopic proximity of the subject matter also evokes a surprising closeness in the sound. Organic plots unfold like short films from a flea or, in this case, amoeba circus - which is made even more exciting by the accompanying visuals by animation artist Sanja Star, with whom Potsa Lotsa XL will be performing together for the first time in Leipzig.

A small world on a grand scale! Even more than with her previous projects, Silke Eberhard's excursion is highly and unreservedly entertaining. "Amoeba's Dance" is jazz to love.
