Sophisticated pop sound from the celebrated vocalist: between Ukrainian folk elements and futuristic electronics. With special guest on the cajón.

"Hope is the only thing that drives us," believes Ganna Gryniva. The Ukrainian musician has been performing under her alias GANNA since 2014 - and has dedicated herself to building bridges: between people and cultures, ideas, places and times.

This abstract dimension of content finds a concrete counterpart in their music. Some might see their music as retro-futuristic electronic pop music or as contemporary urban jazz - others might interpret it as a modern interpretation of traditional folklore. The trick is: despite all the contradictions, everyone is right - or not. In this case, as is so often the case, the musical location is a question of perspective. It is better to renounce the claim of fixation - and understand their sound as a fluid counter-place.

Gryniva also creates one on her new, now fourth solo album "UTOPIA", which will be released in October. Once again, she returns to the Ukrainian folk song tradition. The album was preceded by long and intensive research in libraries and archives, which Gryniva carried out in close cooperation with experts and friends.  

In collaboration with her numerous and renowned guest musicians - including Laura Robles, with whom she will present her program in Leipzig - and through the use of various synthesizers, effects and loops, she gives the traditional pieces a new, hybrid-modern sound. The result is sometimes surprising, often overwhelming, but above all: hopeful.
