BMW Young Artist Jazz Award: Moritz Renner Group

Double concert with Susi Lotter feat. AIKEN.
Just 23 years young, Munich trombonist Moritz Renner has created a sound that dispenses with superfluous ballast and instead focuses on the essence of jazz. In terms of stylistic confidence, virtuosity and joy of playing, his quintet is in no way inferior to the greats of the genre.
Daring, even breakneck musical experiments are not Renner's thing. Instead, he focuses his sound on the traditions of the genre. The five-piece band's sheer effervescent joy of playing is the linchpin with which Renner's complex yet delicate compositions are performed, is the centrepiece. Moritz Renner has gradually outgrown his talent status in recent years with numerous appearances around the country and has earned himself a reputation as an excellent jazz musician. The Schwäbische Zeitung newspaper said it heard the »most incredible sounds« at one of Renner's concerts and was rightly enthusiastic. The Münchner Merkur was also impressed by his playing: »What a trombonist!« It therefore comes as no surprise that after the Bavarian Jazz Association's sponsorship award and the Biberach Jazz Prize, Renner has now received his third top-class award, the BMW Young Artist Jazz Award.
