Swedish bassist Lars Danielsson and e.s.t. drummer Magnus Öström join forces with Israeli-born pianist Yaron Herman in a premiere. The trio tackles Mahler's music for the first time.
Lars Danielsson is versatile and his musical language is unmistakable: he first discovered his interest in jazz bass during his classical cello training at the Gothenburg Conservatory. The freedom of jazz soon fascinated him so much that he sold his cello and played only bass for ten years. It was not until the Indian master percussionist and drummer Trilok Gurtu persuaded him to pick up the cello again in their joint project The Glimpse. Today, Danielsson uses the cello alongside double bass and electric bass in most of his concerts.
The classical influences in his music are still strong. Lars Danielsson is considered to be one of the most lyrical and warm bass players, who nevertheless grooves at the same time. He strikes the perfect balance between solid melodic structures and the greatest possible freedom in improvisation. In recent years, he has repeatedly demonstrated his versatility and love of experimentation in a variety of projects: In collaborations with large ensembles such as the Danish Radio Orchestra and the JazzBaltica Ensemble to an intimate duet with Polish pianist Leszek Mozdzer, with whom Danielsson already played in a quartet at the Leipzig Jazz Days in 2006.
