Jazzelectric Night
Friday 12.10. Werk 2, Hall D 10 p.m.
Afrobeat, Funk, HipHop & Electro = Dance, dance, dance!
Nubiyan Twist
In the young, exciting British jazz scene, where conventions are a thing of the past and creativity and determined ferocity set the tone
, Nubyian Twist are always ready to raise the bar a little higher. The ten-piece band from London, which came together by chance in Leeds, at the School of Music, during a jam session, gives its audience light feet, a
pleasant grin and the taste of salt on the lips. To be more explicit: You will dance until you sweat! The sound of the band lives from the very different musical passions of its members. On "Figure Numatic", the record released in 2015, jazz, hip hop, dub and afrobeat find each other in complete naturalness.
Nubiya Brandon (voc), Oli Cadman (keys), Jonny Enser (tr), Nick Richards (as), Denis Scully (ts), Joe Henwood (bs), Tom Excell (git), Luke Wynter (b), Pilo Adami (perc), Finn Booth (dr).
Matthew Herbert - DJ set
Light and dark race past us. Flashes of light and their absence flicker behind closed eyelids. Our lips laugh silently at the flying light movements of our limbs, lost in the orgasmic frenzy of the dancing crowd and their raging shadows.
We are the music!
To experience Matthew Herbert live is to be part of a musical process that seeks the unfinished and grants the moment its sovereignty
. Herbert's track "Leipzig" resounds from our speakers and as we sway to the fragile sound of his voice, we ask ourselves with him "Who knows where this journey will be taking us?" meaning not only the end of the night
Matthew Herbert (synth, turntables, mix)
