Who still remembers the beautiful sounds of the cassette recorder when you rewound a cassette or even tangled the tape? The for many long dead sound carrier celebrates its comeback with young musicians!

For this workshop we want to dig in the archives and go in search of recordings of old music broadcasts from the radio! But it won't stop there: We'll use these recordings as source material to build "tapeloops" (literally, 'tape loops'). This is done by opening the cassette and physically manipulating the magnetic tape. As you might imagine, the tinkering has an effect on what you hear when you play it back afterwards.

The two musicians Markus Rom and Lisa Zwinzscher from Leipzig will show you exactly how this works and how you can use this technique to create new music.

Come by and bring your old radio recordings on cassette, if you still have some. We look forward to seeing you!

Gladly also with previous registration under tickets@jazzclub-leipzig.de, number of participants limited to 10 persons.

Basic tools, equipment and materials available, if possible feel free to bring scissors/cutter/headphones/walkman.
