Laut & Leipzig - the blog of the Leipzig Jazz Days.

Generation crackle

The first evening of the 46th Leipzig Jazz Days makes a promise: It promises a week full of music, full of enthusiasm and virtuosity. Until 29.10. the diverse line-up can be heard on the large and small stages of the city.

It is difficult to describe the upcoming concerts in a uniform way, the performers and their music are too different. The musical focus lies somewhere between Chicago, Kinshasa and Berlin, between synthesizers and the crackling of cassettes, and yet always remains: jazz. But because jazz does not take place in a vacuum, this year's Jazztage have a special social claim. Under the motto "Talkin' bout My Generation," the festival asks about different perspectives in jazz, about the individual biographies and socialization of the artists. Who plays jazz? Who is excluded from the jazz scene? And what does this have to do with generational affiliation? In the upcoming concerts and talks, such questions will be addressed and discussed. Can answers be found in music? It remains to listen intently, ears pricked up.
