Spvgg Sued feat. Florian Ross

Wednesday, December 7
9 pm naTo
Admission 10/8 EUR

After the great performance at the 35th Leipziger Jazztage on the stage of the opera house, Leipzig's freshest Big returns to the naTo living room at home. With the urge for constant renewal, SV Sued is always looking for reinforcement from renowned guest soloists, composers and arrangers. Sound diversity, coupled with musical precision and concentrated energy and joy of playing have ensured that the independently initiated concert series in the naTo Leipzig has developed into a real crowd puller. It is hard to imagine the Central German cultural scene without the Spielvereinigung Sued. With pianist Florian Ross as band leader, composer and arranger, a new chapter in the band's fast-paced history is now being written. Winner of several awards (including the WDR Jazz Prize for composition), he has already worked with Nils Wogram, George Duke, John Scofield. Growing up in Baden-Württemberg, Florian Ross studied piano and composition at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne with John Taylor, Joachim Ullrich and Bill Dobbins. He then completed jazz composition and piano studies at New York University with Jim McNeely and Don Friedman. Florian Ross is considered one of the most interesting and versatile contemporary jazz composers in Germany. He is a sought-after soloist, arranger and composer. His compositional output includes classical piano trio (Florian Ross Trio), organ trio (Nils Wogram's Nostalgia Trio), big band (commissioned compositions for the WDR and NDR BigBand) and classical orchestra. In his career to date as a composer and arranger, he has been awarded the following prizes, among others: WDR Jazz Prize, International Jazz-Composition Award (Monaco), 1st prize International Thad Jones Competition of the Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra, scholarship of the Foundation Art & Culture in NRW, promotion scholarship Jazz of the city of Cologne. Florian Ross teaches jazz piano and ensemble at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne and gives composition workshops all over the world (including Australia). He has written commissioned works and guest conducted the NDR Big Band, WDR Big Band, HR Big Band, Metropole Orchestra, Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Henri Mancini Institute Orchestra, Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra, Sunday Night Orchestra, Cecile Verny, Celine Rudolph, Joachim Schönecker, Frank Sackenheim, among others.
