Pat Metheny "Side eye
The US guitarist is currently touring Europe and is making a stopover in Leipzig.
Do you know what makes a jazz world star? The following attempt at a conceptual (partly tongue-in-cheek) delimitation should be made: A world jazz star should have won twenty Grammys and play two hundred booked concerts every year anew, spread all over the globe. He should be known for his professional handling of a wide variety of styles and forever change the way his instrument is thought of. Of course, it is appropriate for a musical greatness of this category to be surrounded by an ensemble of the most talented up-and-coming musicians who enrich the sound of traditional jazz with youthful spirit. All this and much more is embodied by US guitarist Pat Metheny, who is currently touring Europe and will make a stop in Leipzig on May 27. He will be accompanied by James Francies (keys, p) and Joe Dyson (dr). Those who don't want to miss out should be prepared for stylistic diversity, for which Metheny is known. The new program entitled "Side-Eye" represents a dialogic platform that underpins a musical interaction process with a constantly changing formation of young musicians*. This and the fact that Pat Metheny likes to express that he has the ambition to play every gig as if it were the last gig he would ever be able to play, let us hope for an exciting evening.
