Do people still talk about miracles today? It sounds a little old-fashioned, but back then there were still child prodigies and wonders of the world, and in another age, children used to marvel at the not-yet-understood. Today, many things seem to have become part of a deformed and calculated world where there is no longer any room for a sense of wonder and miracles: everything is solidified, predictable and controlled - not to mention AI.
When the Magnetic Ghost Orchestra announces its new album "Holding On to Wonder", it gives you hope. First of all, you can marvel at the previous two albums "Sand" and "Magnetic Ghost Orchestra": the compositions by Berlin guitarist Moritz Sembritzki strike a fantastic balance between Gil Evans, Frank Zappa and Grandmaster Flash. The big band sound is crossed and contrasted by the two front singers, who sometimes sing a classic jazz chant, sometimes enchant with their operatic voices. And then it all rubs together so wonderfully with improvised elements, overlapping at an angle and yet finding its own new harmony in the end - not calculated, quite unexpected, beautiful.
So perhaps we should speak of miracles after all, understand the adherence to miracles as a small instruction on a possible attitude for the future with music. Whatever it is called: the incommensurable, the unspeakable, aura or even miracle, you can experience it in the concerts of the Magnetic Ghost Orchestra - but only if you go.
