LeipStream
The independent livestream platform offers the independent Leipzig cultural scene a platform of solidarity in times of pandemic.
LeipStream is the name of the newly founded livestream platform that has set itself the task of offering the independent Leipzig cultural scene a platform of solidarity in times of pandemic.
The makers of LeipStream offer their viewers much more than just a concert filmed in an empty, silent hall. The filmmakers, together with the respective cooperation partners, ensure that the livestreams have their own aesthetics. Of course, this is not too briefly determined by the demands of the current situation. For this reason, the Leipzig band Schwarzkaffee found themselves on the stage of Werk 2, Hall D in specially set-up cages made of construction fencing, each of which was wrapped all around with foil. A multitude of cameras in the boxes and the film team outside provided a varied film experience.
With all these impressive finesses, we should not lose sight of the difficulties that cultural workers are confronted with these days. To want to work and to be able to work does not mean to be allowed to do so. The LeipStream team has offered itself and meanwhile a multitude of musicians a space to present music on the one hand, of course, but on the other hand also, for example, to draw attention to the precarious situation of venues and to collect donations for the upcoming rent by means of a concert. This is what happened in the first edition of the LeipStream series #HiddenPlaces. Tobias Fröhlich, Philippos Thönes and Uli Huebner, three young Leipzig musicians, played at a venue that was not further named. Sensitized in their announcements for the special requirements of the pandemic and also promoted the preservation of sites of cultural life, which contribute significantly to the shaping of social coexistence.
Of course, the LeipStream concept is no substitute for a real live concert. Monetarily it does not pay off either. The donations collected during and after the stream in the digital hat cannot replace other income. 90% of the income from donations goes directly to the participating artists*. The remaining 10% of the income cannot cover the costs incurred. For each livestream concert, which of course wants to be realized as good as possible, the group goes in advance. Without the solidary support of the venues involved so far, a realization of these projects would hardly be possible.
For three more days you can support the project on Startnext with a donation. The money collected will be paid out in full to LeipStream and should help to ensure that the participants can be paid a fee in the future. More info >>>
