"Schattengewächs" would be an understatement if you took the name of the duo's latest EP at its word. The two newcomers are growing more and more into the spotlight of the indietronica scene.
Annelie Weißel and Sophia Günst create their casual sound with a chamber music flair, which is made up of an instrumental variety: electric bass groove meets cello and relaxed spoken vocals. The improvised passages warm the jazz heart and, especially live, they both enter into a musical exchange to give pop a new, sophisticated varnish.
Their lyrics are narrative and convincing with sophisticated language. And even when they are performed nonchalantly, the lightness of the music retains its depth of content: such as in the song "Oh Boy", in which catcalling and sexualized harassment are addressed. They also prove that German lyrics can sound extraordinarily good.
