First Date: Wendy Eisenberg & Emily Wittbrodt #1
Prices
US guitarist Wendy Eisenberg combines folk, free jazz, avant pop and new music in her sound. Cologne-based cellist Emily Wittbrodt draws her influences from classical music, jazz and improvisational elements. In October, they will share a stage together for the first time and explore the boundaries of their sound spectrum.
First dates are popular, notorious, hard to endure without sweaty palms and always have an unclear outcome. Started in 2020 at Neues Schauspiel, the Leipziger Jazztage are continuing the series of musical first dates as part of this year's festival edition. Space and time are predetermined - everything else is up to the potential of the moment. Wittbrodt released an album in 2023 with her project make you stay. It is a harmonious conglomerate of baroque forms, experimental improvisation and melancholy lyrics. Eisenberg is also perceptibly on the move in border areas and at the same time knows how to keep her audience interested. She prefers to do everything at the same time: Catchy melodies, post-punk attitude and free jazz. What remains is curiosity about the as yet unknown joint potential of two innovative and unconventional musicians.
