Sound carpet is a worn-out term. It helps out precisely when sounds are no longer distinguishable - language capitulates to music and then falls back on a meaningless commonplace. With Caoilfhionn Rose, however, the term could not be more appropriate. Because her music interweaves folk influences with jazz and indie to create an expansive, flat sound with a feel-good character.
This is particularly evident on her new album "Constellation". Her keyboard playing and her voice are given warm timbres by synthesizers and melt into an overall ambient sound. If there are still gaps in the weave in some places, these are filled by a gentle saxophone, almost reminiscent of a lullaby. But you certainly won't get tired of it, because the drums give the whole thing its momentum with jazz beats, so that it quickly becomes clear: Rose - whose Irish name is pronounced "keelin'" - has mastered the impressive art of sound weaving like few others.
