Since 2006, the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra, under the direction of its founder and composer Daniel Glatzel, has earned a reputation as a large ensemble that is as characteristic as it is radical. The twelve-piece formation skillfully combines a wide variety of elements to create a coherent sound framework. AMEO was awarded the German Jazz Prize in 2021.

Questions that inevitably arise when listening to the pieces: Is this jazz or pop? Futuristic or retro? Easy listening or avant-garde? E- or U-music? The collective deliberately refuses to be categorized in this way. Band founder Daniel Glatzel once called AMEO's artistic approach »acoustic sampling« - which probably means that the galaxy is the only boundary they accept. »Space Is The Place« is another keyword that comes to mind. It is not for nothing that the AMEO has been repeatedly compared to the Sun Ra Arkestra. Bayerischer Rundfunk once described AMEO's music as reminiscent of a »musical land of milk and honey«. The FAZ heard an »almost magical intensity and depth«. And the Süddeutsche Zeitung responds to those who still incorrigibly believe that the musical present is characterized by a blatant lack of character and individuality when it writes: »No other ensemble in the world sounds like them.«
