Santa Claus is supposed to not even exist. So it's great that another Christmas tradition is quite real, the advenZZ benefiZZ jaZZ. The fizz collective organizes this and other benefit concerts to promote openness and togetherness with (mainly) Leipzig musicians, and to raise money for organizations that are committed to these values: SOS Mediterranée (rescues refugees in distress from the Mediterranean Sea) and Medinetz Leipzig (enables medical treatment for undocumented people in Germany).
There are four extremely interesting bands playing that evening, crossing musical boundaries: Leipzig's Elephants on Tape electronic and acoustic, the Franconian Gankino Circus those of avant-garde, folk and folk music, Michael Wollny (beyond adjectives) and Konstantin Gropper (aka Get Well Soon) those of jazz, orchestral pop and cinematic melodies, and Spielvereinigung Sued feat. Brigade Futur III those of big band jazz and manifest hip hop. They all say, "We need civic engagement." The UT and Jazzclub see it the same way and graciously support the cause.
