Monday jazz in the temporary store: Nora Benamara & Robbi Nakayama

"Amnesia" is the name of the widely praised debut album by German-French singer Nora Benamara, which was released in August last year on the Cologne jazz label Double Moon Records. In the album's nine tracks, she and her fellow musicians create a contemporary vocal jazz sound that does not shy away from the influences of modern classical music or avant-garde pop.

In the Monday jazz series of the Auf Zeit store, Benamara now presents reduced, sometimes intimate versions of the songs together with Leipzig pianist Robbi Nakayama. This brings out the central theme of the album - the search for lost parts of the self - even more intensely. At the same time, looking back opens up a view of what is to come: Distant, sometimes utopian places and times shimmer through the duo's expressive sound language, whose openness is musically emphasized by improvisational parts.
