Award of the Leipzig Jazz Young Talent Prize of the Marion Ermer Foundation: Max Löbner

Max Löbner was recently awarded the Central German Jazz Prize. Now comes the Leipzig Jazz Newcomer Award. He and his band KLSD will demonstrate why on this evening: The quartet's sound spectrum, flanked by two guitars, ranges from flat and sensitive to powerful fusion rock.
A band with two guitars is more familiar in the field of rock than jazz music, showing that the quartet has no musical blinkers. On the contrary: For them, Jazz is the starting point of a musical journey that is not determined a priori, but only takes shape in the course of playing together. This way, the band casually sidesteps the suspicion - not entirely unjustified in the case of jazz - of being too cerebral, which would be completely unfounded in the case of KLSD. It's potential has spread like wildfire since it was founded in September 2021. Two years ago, they won the Recording Project in a competition organised by LOFT Cologne, which allowed them to record their upcoming debut album. A success that was followed by this year's Central German Jazz Prize, an award that will likely not be their last one.
